Family

Personality & Traits

General Overview Yy is a polite, gregarious and understanding woman. A natural hostess and socialite, she is at her most comfortable around others. She is tactful and elegant, and would be as comfortable sipping tea with the queen of england as she is elegantly quaffing bloodwine with Klingons. She considers every lifeform to be a joy and a treasure. A deeply spiritual Deltan, she follows the ways of the three sister goddesses Ia, Lo, and Yy, after whom she was named.

Naturally empathic and quite capable, Yy experiences the extreme emotions of others as if they were her own, and is almost forced to help any around her in emotional distress. She will do all she can to bring joy and comfort to those around her.

Unfortunately due to past abuses of her telepathy, she experiences instances of emotional volatility and despondency when isolated, and cannot remain so for long. She cannot go more than two-to-three hours while awake without the urge to be or communicate with others.
Strengths & Weaknesses Yy’s friendly and empathic nature allows her to manoeuvre most situations fairly easily. She is reasonably intuitive and quite clever, having been through both Delta University and Starfleet Medical Academy.

As an aspect of her faith, she has renounced all violence, and will not harm others, even in defence of herself, but she might be swayed to protect others in life-or-death situations.

Her reliance on the presence of others for her own wellbeing has been problematic, and is something she must take care of. She is sometimes gullible, and often too trusting. She has been known to lapse into thrill-seeking behaviour.
Ambitions Yy hopes to atone for the indiscretions of her past amongst her own people, and to discover all she can about the working of the mind and how to heal it. She wishes to raise a family, but is resigned to the fact she may never meet a partner who suits her criteria.
Hobbies & Interests Yy is forced by her circumstances to be constantly entertaining others, this consumes much of her time. When she can she enjoys exercise, any chance to sit in the sun, and reading.

She has taken pilot's lessons since Starfleet Academy, has since qualified, and owns and pilots her own shuttle.

Personal History Yy was born in the wet season on Delta IV, and was as normal a child as most. Her favorite time of year was three-moons, and she had a pet peacock named Abeline.

When she came of age her first decision was to study medicine at the University of Delta, as her own mother had. During her student years she became involved in a cult known as the Children of Saan, led by a charismatic Vulcan. The cult became a menace on Delta IV, though never a real threat, they conducted acts of sabotage and interference to provoke and agitate the Federation into interference, to establish an anti-Federation presence on Delta IV.

Yy lived underground with the group for almost two years, continuing her studies and serving as a supplier and healer to the group, who became slowly more militant as Saan’s desire for power grew. After a botched attack on a Federation official, Saan ordered a mass suicide of the cult, and most, too enthralled by his telepathic abilities, began their attempts.

Yy was able to resist Saan’s grip, and used her own telepathic abilities to stop him. The resulting conflict left Saan in a vegetative state, and damage to her psyche from the encounter created a pathological need for the company of others in her. Rather than face prison as she expected, Yy was honoured by the Federation for stopping Saan and saving the rest of the children, though her actions were well known amongst her people, and many chose to shun her. When she finished her studies she made the decision to leave Delta, and enrolled at Starfleet Academy.

She graduated fourth in her class, and undertook her first tour aboard Starbase Three, working in a rehabilitation hospital. She found her work immediately rewarding, and perfectly suited to dealing with victims of trauma.

She later transferred to the USS Republic to serve as Counselor and later, Assistant Chief of Medicine, for a largely uneventful tour as a psychiatric clinician.

On circumstance and a whim, Yy applied for a position in the Gamma Quadrant when it became known to her, as Starbase 50’s Counselor. She later transferred with the Captain and much of the crew to the USS Mercury. After the Mercury's destruction, she accepted reassignment to her homeworld for a time, working as Chief Counselor aboard the planet's orbital starbase.

In 2402, she joined Deep Space 13.
