Lieutenant Eldan 3

Second Position Assistant Chief Diplomatic Officer

Rank Lieutenant

Character Information

Sex Male
Species Vorta
Age ??
Pronouns He/him
Summary The vast majority of individuals, Starfleet or otherwise, don’t have to deal with the issue of personhood. They perceive themselves as persons, because they are born and they are like others of their species. They are recognized as persons. That recognition is doubly true for Starfleet officers.

Eldan 3 is not part of that majority. He was not born. He is a clone.

His perception of himself as a person was not automatic. He learned it over time. As far as Starfleet is concerned, he is officially recognized as both a person and an officer. However, just because he is officially recognized as such, he is not universally recognized as such.

While not widespread, there is a subtle inference, among a minority of personnel, that he is less than, or worse yet, dangerous, because he is a Vorta and was part of the Dominion war machine.

Like most of his kind, he has diminished eyesight. Up close, it is decent enough. He recognizes faces and objects, but the recognition diminishes quickly past 30 feet. He can’t truly appreciate a sunrise or sunset. That is offset by his hearing, which is vastly superior to that of most other species.

He can hear someone’s heartbeat if they are close enough. He can hear the change in their breathing, which, coupled with his natural intuition, gives him a unique ability to read a person, or a room, and makes it difficult to be lied to.

He, along with all of his people, was created to worship the Founders as gods. He and they had little choice in the matter. Some people believe that Vorta are just a result of their programming. That is a misconception. While it is true that they (and he) had little choice when it came to worship, that doesn’t mean that they are incapable of acting independently in other areas and making their own decisions. Eldan certainly does.

The silence of the gods left a void in him, one he filled by his devotion to Starfleet and its ideals.

The posting to DS13 is the next step in his career, the next step in proving that devotion and his capabilities. He intends to continue to prove himself and to do something significant while he is there.
Place of Birth Dominon cloning facility Gamma Quadrant

Physical State

Height 5'8"
Weight 165
Hair Color Black
Eye Color Blue
Physical Description Eldan doesn’t have a particularly imposing figure and would never be mistaken for a Klingon. He is only 5’9” and weighs around 160 pounds. He has the lithe, sinewy build of a runner, which is something he does. He will sometimes work out in a gym, holographic or otherwise, but it’s more to keep fit and trim rather than build bulk.
His hair is the color of a Terran raven, and he wears it in the traditional Vorta style. His eyes are his most prominent feature; they are cobalt blue. Other Vorta would find him easy on the eyes, while other species view him as odd, or, more generously exotic, opting for more muted colors like grey, black, and earth tones. He carries himself with a quiet confidence that compensates for his not being intimidating. While that doesn’t make him the center of attention, especially when he is just trying to blend in and be inconspicuous, it does get him noticed when he makes the effort to do so.

While not in uniform, he prefers clothes designed for comfort and durability rather than the latest fashion, opting for more muted colors like grey, black, and earth tones. If the occasion calls for it, he will wear brighter colored clothes.

Family

Spouse Ravel (ex)
Children None
Father None
Mother None
Brother(s) None
Sister(s) None
Other Family Eldan has no mother or father. He was cloned. Nor does he have any siblings in the traditional sense. There was another clone, created at the same time as he was, who was a mirror of himself, named Darius. Darius was right-handed, Eldan left-handed. Darius had a small mark on his right shoulder, not a defect, something of a label. Eldan had the same mark on his left shoulder. Eldan’s hair falls on his left side, Darius’s on the right. Darius was romantically attracted to women; Eldan was not.

There was no childhood, but they spent the first five years of their lives together.

When Eldan was on the Saratoga, he met and fell in love with Ravel, a joined Trill. They were together only for a short time, not because of any friction or tragedy; Eldan was simply transferred away, and a long-distance relationship didn’t work out.

Personality & Traits

General Overview Eldan is an INFJ Assertive.

He is comfortable in social situations, sure of himself, but wouldn’t be described as a social butterfly. He is genuinely warm and thoughtful. He is idealistic and principled. He respects and follows the chain of command, but doesn’t blindly follow orders if he feels they are inconsistent. He will, at the very least, ask for clarification if he feels the need.

He listens and doesn’t try to anticipate what is coming next.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths

• Supportive – Eldan truly enjoys helping others, and he happily shares his knowledge, attention, and expertise with anyone who needs it. He strives for win-win situations, choosing teamwork over competition whenever possible.
• Reliable – Rather than working in sporadic, excited bursts that leave things half finished, he is meticulous. He takes a steaEldan approach, ensuring that things are done to the highest standard, and often going well beyond what is required.
• Observant – He has a talent for noticing things, particularly about other people. He pays attention to the smallest details of what someone says and does, giving them unexpected insights into other people’s lives and emotions.
• Enthusiastic – When the goal is right, He applies all of his gifts to something that he believes will make a real, positive difference in people’s lives – whether that’s fighting poverty with a global initiative or simply making a customer’s day.
• Hardworking – He doesn’t just get his work done – he takes pride in it. He will often form an emotional attachment to the projects and organizations that he’s dedicated himself to, and he won’t rest until he’s done his share – or more than his share – to be of help.
• Good Practical Skills – Eldan offers the rare combination of an altruistic nature and hard-won practicality. He doesn’t just hope to help others. He takes action, meaning that he’s more than happy to roll up his sleeves and do what’s necessary to care for his friends, family, and anyone else who needs it.

Weaknesses
• Overly Humble – He is so concerned with other people’s feelings that he may refuse to make his thoughts known or to take any duly earned credit for his contributions. And he often downplays his efforts entirely when he thinks that he could have done some minor aspect of a task better.
• Taking Things Personally – Although he might try to hide i, from people, he is deeply sensitive to others’ opinions, and he can be thrown off balance if someone doesn’t appreciate, approve of, or agree with him. When he encounters criticism or disagreement – even if it’s well-intentioned – he sometimes feels as if he’s experiencing a personal attack.
• Repressing His Feelings – Private and reserved, he tends to internalize his feelings, particularly negative ones. This can create misunderstandings in his relationships. Eventually, all of his repressed feelings and resentments may boil over in a sudden, uncharacteristic outburst of frustration.
• Overcommitted – His dutifulness can lead to situations in which he is overwhelmed yet unwilling to relax his standards or ask for help. As a result, he may suffer silently, trying to do everything himself, even when it’s simply impossible.
• Reluctant to Change – He sometimes struggles the most with change. Breaking with tradition isn’t easy for Eldan, who places great value on history and precedent. Even when change is necessary, he may wait until the situation reaches a breaking point before altering course.
• Too Altruistic – His giving, generous nature can leave him vulnerable to being taken advantage of by others. It can be hard for him to rock the boat and stand up to someone who isn’t pulling their weight.
Ambitions Unlike many Starfleet officers, Eldan doesn’t want to command his own ship. He has led Away Teams, more than once, and, along with other officers on the Resistance, took several rotations at the Conn. He performed well but came to realize that while he would welcome more responsibility in his own department, he has no desire to advance to command.

He would like to pass on his experience and teach at the Academy someday, but that is in the future. For now, he wants to have a First Contact experience or help diffuse a hostile situation.

On a personal level, he wants to find someone to fall in love with, but that is not high on his priority list.
Hobbies & Interests Eldan first became interested in music in his first iteration It was the art he could appreciate the most, because it’s the only one he can fully experience. Over his first two lifetimes, and now third, he has accumulated a large and eclectic collection.

He is also a student of history and other cultures.

He likes spending time in the holodeck.

Normally, he is not a risk-taker. Especially since he is so far from a cloning facility and now death would be final, not an inconvenience. But he is into extreme sports.

Languages Since the moment that Eldan 9 was cloned, he was built for diplomacy. His facility for languages has been built not only from his current timeline but also from previous versions of himself.

He comes to the station fluent in Dominionese, Vorta-cant, and Federation Standard. He has an extensive familiarity with Romulan. He is able to speak Cardassian and Bajoran quite well, but some of those languages’ idioms are lost on him. Since learning of his assignment as the Assistant Chief on DS13, he has just started learning Goa'uld and Jaffa. While he doesn’t expect to be the primary negotiator, given his limited role, he respects other people enough to attempt to speak a few words in their language without the use of a virtual or physical interpreter.

His accent in all the languages he speaks is soft, and he speaks deliberately.
Personal History The Founders first created Eldan and Darius as the Dominion War was fermenting. Eldan was the one intended for diplomacy. Dairus to command the Jem’Hadar. Eldan helped diffuse the chaos behind the lines, while Darius helped create chaos on the lines.

They were both good at what they did. During a particularly brutal battle, Darius disappeared. To this day, the Eldan line doesn’t know what happened to Darius. Did he die? If so, was he cloned? Is there a Darius line now? Was he simply taken captive? No one knows for sure. At least Eldan doesn’t. The Founders might have known, but Eldan 3 has never heard the Founders personally. He only has partial memories of his previous versions of himself.

Shortly after the battle where Darius disappeared, Eldan 1 was killed. It was a brutal death, a phaser blast to his face, but it was at least a quick death.

Eldan 2 was killed during one of the last battles of the war. A Jem’Hadar soldier had rebelled and was no longer following the Founders’ mandate. He had committed two grievances. He had shown mercy to an opponent, and he had run away. Eldan 2 showed compassion. By that time, it was part of his nature, or more accurately, a more pronounced part of his nature; it had always been there. He should have reported the insubordination; it was his duty. He chose to keep that from the Founder. When asked about it directly, he lied and said no. Eldan died in one of the final battles of the war. Neither he nor Eldan 3 knows if the Founders killed him, or if it was just a coincidence.

The universe did not fully return to normal until 2395. Eldan could have been terminated; many Vorta were. He chose service instead and joined Starfleet. After being debriefed by Starfleet Intelligence, he was accepted into the Academy.

Because of his previous experience, Eldan was put on an accelerated program and graduated in two years. More than one instructor at the Academy and officer on the ships he has served on have questioned his loyalty. Though the majority have trusted him, or at least given him a chance

His first assignment as an ensign was both fascinating and frustrating because of the people. He was assigned to the Fernegi Protectorate Transition Office. Dealing with them, taking complaints, and dealing with their issues tried his patience, but it made him better at his job.

He served on the USS Saratoga as a diplomatic officer from 2397 to 2399. No one reported to him, at least not directly, but the Saratoga’s primary function was patrol and diplomatic escorts. He was kept quite busy and gained firsthand knowledge of de-escalating hostile situations.

It was there that he met and fell in love with Ravel, a joined Trill and Security Investigation Officer. Ravel was his first real relationship. The slightly older man taught him a lot about love and commitment, though they were only together as a couple for a little over a year before Eldan was reassigned. They made a mutual decision to move on rather than try to make a long-distance relationship work.

He spent the next two years at the Cardassian Refugee Resettlement Commission, where he earned a promotion to Lieutenant (JG).

His most recent assignment before DS 13 was on the USS Resistance, where he served as the Assistant Chief Diplomatic Officer. He enjoyed the increased authority, but missed the more hands-on diplomacy he’d enjoyed previously.

He was just promoted and assigned to DS13.
Service Record Pre-war activations Eldan’s line was first activated by the Founders at the rise of the Dominion War. Before that, he didn’t existt an before the Treaty of Normalization, and his coming to the Federation dates and times are approximations

2370s — Dominion War. During the Dominion War conflict, various versions of Eldan were activated. The Eldan line served as diplomats rather than on the front lines. He doesn’t talk much about those pre-Starfleet days. First, it is no one’s business but his own, except for what he was required to disclose to Starfleet Intelligence for admission into Starfleet. Second, his memories from that version of himself are fragmented and incomplete.

2395 — Treaty of normalization. Following Dominion withdrawal, entered Federation service through the post-treaty resettlement program for displaced Dominion personnel. Recruited by Starfleet Command.

2395 — 2397 Starfleet Academy Because of Eldan’s previous experience, he only had to attend two years.

2397 Ferengi Protectorate Transition Office — Federation Diplomatic Liaison. Seconded to the protectorate negotiations following the One-Week War.

2397 — 2399 USS Saratoga Diplomatic Officer

2399 — 2401 Cardassian Refugee Resettlement Commission — Adjudication Officer. Assessed Federation membership and asylum petitions from worlds displaced by the collapse of the Cardassian Union. Promoted to Lieutenant (JG)

2401 — 2402 USS Resistance Asst. Chief Diplomatic Officer Promoted to Lieutenant

2402 — Present Deep Space 13, Starport-class — Asst Chief Diplomatic Officer.
