Mission: The Serpent's Tooth [3]
Location: Akhenaten's Pyramid - Akhet-Aten, Dreizhen III
Timeline: Afternoon - MD13

Akhenaten was greatly pleased with their new allies in the Federation. They had erected a small city for his faithful in the time it would take the System Lords to tear such a settlement down, and the people were happy. Though he did not fully trust the son of Hera, his daughter’s affection for the boy shone like the light of the Aten, and he could not deny her. Verily, the Aten's guidance had brought all the prosperity he had envisioned, and there was much to be joyous for.

His throne room and solarium allowed an impressive view of the City of the Horizon, the plains beyond, and the image of the Aten as it moved across the sky. Though it was an alien star in another universe, it was no less the sacred likeness of his father.

He heard the ring aperture in the ceiling across the room open, someone was coming to see him. He was filled with great pride when he beheld the ease with which his daughter had disassembled many of Hera’s transports to salvage the rings to allow them to travel through the many levels of the great pyramid without the need for stairs. As the light flashed within to signal a travelers arrival, the Pharaoh knew it was his vizier Atenophis.

“Great Pharaoh, I apologize for the intrusion.” He said with a bow.

“Not at all, my Vizier.” The Pharaoh said.

“The Regent Chimaera is here to pay homage.” Atenophis explained.

“Is he alone?” Akhenaten asked. He had some faith in the new Regent’s late father Typhon, but the son was a mystery to him as a man, the weight of his soul against the feather of truth was an unknown quantity.

“He travels with his own Vizier and a host of Jaffa, but he knows he may only enter alone.” Atenophis said.

“Very well, send him to me.” Akhenaten said.

“As my Pharaoh wishes.” The Vizier bowed and moved backwards into the ring transport platform, activating the system. A set of rings rose around him, and a flash of light whisked him away, leaving the white armored Harcesis Chimaera in his wake. He was the spitting image of his father’s host as a young man.

“Hail Akhenaten, Lord of the Horizon.” Chimaera said, holding his palms open as he approached.

“Hail Chimaera, may you prove worthy of your father’s domain.” Akhenaten said, standing before his throne, remaining where he was.

“Since attaining the Regency I have adopted a new name in honour of my father. I shall now be known as Typhoeus, the enemies of Akhet-Aten and New Ischia shall know the terrible sound of my fury.”

“Then hail to you Typhoeus, second shadow of Typhon.” Akhenaten said.

“You honour me, great Pharoah. It is my hope that we shall share the alliance my father held with you, especially now that our domains are safe from Tau’ri interference.”

“It is my hope too, Aten willing, that our people may thrive across this world. The future the Aten has laid before us is bright beyond my imagining.”

“Indeed, great Pharaoh. Yet we must also acknowledge the darkness tha lingers in our wake.”

“What darkness do you speak of?” Akhenaten asked, taking a seat upon his simple but sizable sandstone throne.

“My father shared with me the secrets of his reign. Even now he shares them with me.” Typhon moved slowly closer, still more than half a room away. “Know Great Pharaoh, that I would never betray the confidences you made with him. So too would I hope that you would not betray mine”

“Your father was a great ally, but I know of no confidence I shared with him. Nor do I know any confidence of yours, Typhoeus.” Akhenaten was confused, his unease with his guest grew. He was thankful the Federation had returned his Kara kesh, but he hoped it would remain unused.

“No? Perhaps you do not recall. It may be before the Aten visited with you and guided you in this path. And as for my confidences, I will share them with you now.” With some unseen gesture, a device was deactivated, and Akhenaten suddenly detected the presence of a symbiote. He sat up with shock, knowing that Chimaera, or Typhoeus had been overtaken by a Goa’uld.

“As you see my friend, the Aten has chosen me for greater things than death in the cold of space.” His voice was suddenly deep and flanged, like a Goa’uld. His eyes flashed as he finished.

“Typhon.” Akhenaten spat the name as a curse. “How?”

“Hera shared with me her discoveries. It is truly remarkable what ancient technology can achieve.” Typhoeus said with a cruel grin, reactivating whatever device concealed the presence of the symbiote, his voice returning to normal.

“I will not deceive our Federation allies.” Akhenaten said sternly.

“We must keep one another’s secrets my friend. You know my true name now, I will keep yours hidden. The name you wore before the Aten found and restored you.” Typhoeus returned to the ring platform as he spoke.

“You know nothing of me, abomination.”

“No, perhaps I do not. But then perhaps I do, Oranos.” Typhoeus savored revealing the name, speaking it slowly and with relish. The rings around him activated and he was gone.

Akhenaten told himself that Chimaera lied, and prayed to the Aten for guidance.
