Ambassador Velt and I are currently participating in the hospitality of the Pharaoh Akhenaten in the City of the Horizon. It is remarkable what the Atenists have managed to achieve in the last few months.
Today marks three months since their colonies first broke ground, the first day that many started their lives on Dreizhen III. Akhet-Aten’s population has peaked at over seven thousand, New Ischia at four thousand.
What were once enormous fortress-pyramids surrounded by hastily assembled communities of prefabricated homes are now dedicated cities. Akhet-Aten’s gates open to a grand marketplace and plaza outside the temple-fortress of the pyramid, entered through a resplendent and well-secured gateway. There is mass transit and community housing and markets full of food, with the Pharoah’s pyramid serving as community centre and house of law. Waterways, sewers and pools are common and well-maintained. All are cared for, none go hungry or unsheltered.
There are more than two hundred Klingons and thirty Romulans now living among the Jaffa population, and at least five Ferengi venues between the settlements fly staff in and out from DS13. The Jaffa by all accounts are a welcoming and tolerant people.
It is safe, it is secure, and from what people tell me, a happy and prosperous place. The Pharoah and his court are really seen other than on ceremonial occasions. Federation technology has not changed their way of life, merely supercharged it.
The return of the two Ha’tak vessels as orbital stations for each have proven economically invaluable, as well as providing defences of last resort for the population should a planetary emergency arise.
The Jaffa are a humble and tradition-oriented people, despite the advent of phasers and any number of more advanced technologies available in our region of space, they continue to honour the ma’tok staff and zat’nik’tel stunner. They continue to hunt, farm and forage, and have made extensive reports of the areas surrounding their cities.
That is not to say it is without incident, there have been 238 non-natural deaths since the colony was founded, most in declared battles of honour. Despite that, more than 350 children have been born, meaning the Jaffa population is in surplus and predicted to grow rapidly.
The developments mean that we have been receiving freighters every other day for the last two weeks, more than half a dozen Jaffa have been intercepted attempting to flee. It is a strange thing to see a people who we are deliberately restraining and confining, but I understand for everyone’s sake, keeping the beings who originate in other universes next to the anomaly that connects to other universes is a priority for ensuring everyone gets home safely, where possible.
Though we have not yet finalised the surveys, transfers to live on Dreizhen IV instead are available, but none have so far requested them. Incidentally, if everything proceeds on schedule, the initial surveys of Dreizhen IV should be completed sometime tomorrow, I expect we will be breaking ground on our first colony there before the new year.
This event will be long, and the new security measures within the Pharaoh’s enhanced pyramid mean that I will be out of communications range. I trust the crew to perform admirably in my absence.
End log.
