Mission: The Serpent's Tooth [3]
Location: High Security Brig 1 - DS13
Timeline: Morning - MD09

“For those of you who didn’t get a chance to meet me before the surprise during the treaty signing, I’m Oriath Velt, Federation Ambassador-at-Large. It’s my job to represent my governments diplomatic interests out here. Normally we’d be discussing this and more over canapes, but unfortunately procedures dictate that we keep you all in a location we know symbiotes can’t escape.” In this particular quartet of brig cells, they held Akhenaten, Hera, Typhon and the woman who had sat with Hera at the luncheon a few days earlier. Velt didn't know her name.

All wore pale blue fatigues that had been provided after they’d been beamed into position, the Starfleet crew were not taking any chances on any item of clothing that might have held further surprises. “Our new arrivals, whom you call the Tau’ri, have said that you’re all responsible for some fairly heinous acts that we would consider war crimes. If they can convince our Captain that they’re right and that you are more likely than not to have done the things they say, he’ll release you to them, and you’ll be taken back to your galaxy for trial.” Velt said.

“The Tau’ri do not give fair trials to Goa’uld. We are guilty from birth.” Typhon argued.

“I think despite all the drama, there’s a very real chance, depending on the outcome of this trial, that the Federation and the Atenist or otherwise unaligned Goa’uld might have a lot to do with each other as friends in the future. In the interest of that potential cooperation, if any of you would like to request an individual advocate, or one to represent you as a group, we have top legal minds available to you, you just need ask.” Velt explained to the Goa’uld in cells around him, as he’d soon tell the next batch.

“We would accept this.” Akhenaten told the Ambassador. “But we should not be tried with the shol’va Hera. She is unworthy.”

“Utul-vosh, Ikhnatn!” Hera swore at Akhenaten in an obviously venomous term the universal translator didn’t catch. The old man ignored her outburst.

“The trial will be a settling of all claims against your parties simultaneously. At the end, you will either stay or be sent back with the Bra’tac. If you stay, you’ll be offered settlement options in line with any requirements issued by Starfleet Command. In all likelihood settlers will remain in this star system. We’ve yet to permit any arrivals to go beyond it. If you’d like to accept any of these offers after I’m gone, just ask the computer for legal help by speaking to it.” Velt said, cutting through the argument decisively.

“What are their accusations?” Akhenaten asked.

“Computer, list the charges made by the Tau’ri Alliance against the Atenists.” Velt said.

“Charges laid on behalf of the Alliance of Free Worlds, or Tau’ri Alliance, are as follows;” The computer’s familiar voice began.

“They accuse each of us, our viziers and our first primes. Do you not see that this is Tau’ri farce?” Akhenaten responded.

“We’re very open to that. That’s why we’re offering our officers to help you convince our Captain that’s the case.” Velt responded.

“So be it.” Typhon said. “I will speak with your defender.”

“As will I.” Hera responded rapidly.

Akhenaten said nothing, and returned to the bed in his cell.

“Well, he’ll be along.” Velt said of the incoming advocate. “You have rights, and the computer will explain them to you if requested. Unless there’s anything else, good evening.” Velt said. Nobody had anything.
