Station commander's log, stardate 79629.45.
The USS Qaraqorum departed DS13 this morning on its mission to retrace the trail of USS Voyager back into the Delta Quadrant. We are grateful for Admiral Singh's assistance as we begin our independent operations.
Our time aboard the station has already been eventful, we have discovered what seems to be an opening in the fabric of spacetime that connects randomly to other universes beyond our own. For lack of a better term of reference, we know it simply as the anomaly.
It is not yet clear how the destruction of a Romulan freighter nearby managed to disturb the anomaly, which the Romulans have denied all prior knowledge of. What is clear is that the nature of the anomaly can be extremely hazardous, we encountered an entity described as a post-entropy anti-universe which seemed determined to destroy the station, and nearly succeeded.
It is only through the intervention of a being who called himself the watchman, and through a theoretical Romulan-designed energy sequence that Deep Space 13 was able to evade this creature, and switch the anomaly to another universe that is so far free of intruding threats.
We are fortunate that our only casualty has been the secondary hull of of the USS Faraday, but building a replacement will give our engineering and operations crew something to keep them busy until traffic to the station picks up. It is as yet unclear when that will happen, but Ambassador Velt will be travelling with Admiral Gali to a regional trade forum when he arrives aboard the Challenger in just under two weeks.
Until then, the time until the Challenger arrives will be a good opportunity for the crew to get used to daily operations, and we can begin our exploration of the anomaly and surveys of the Dreizhen system.
End log.
