Mission:
Masters of the Stars [2]
Location: Rovak's Office, CIC, DS13
Timeline: 0915 - MD02
Gaz was proud of himself, he got to the CIC with only two wrong turns from his quarters. He didn't know why the skipper wanted him, but today wasn't the day he started questioning orders before following them. He tapped the chime with his stubby index finger.
"Enter." Rovak called.
"Reporting as requested, sir." Gaz said, moving inside and standing at attention.
"Please, have a seat." Rovak said, gesturing to the chairs opposite.
Gaz sat without a fuss.
"Chief Grey Horse has resigned his commission. I would like you to take over as Chief of the Port." Rovak explained immediately.
"Really, I'm the best you've got for Command Chief? That's kinda sad, sir." Gaz said.
"I appreciate your cultural propensity for self-effacement Chief, but I am confident you are the most suitable candidate for the position." Rovak said.
"What about Aitrell? He might only be a year younger, but hes seen more action than I have." Gaz said.
"Chief Aitrell is a gunner precisely because he loves guns. It is my experience that he does not have the same affection for management or detail. These are areas where I know first hand that you excel. And despite your previously mentioned cultural propensities, you remain a popular and well-esteemed member of any crew."
"Fine, fine. I'll accept because I know if you keep going I'm going to start wondering if you plan to ask me out for dinner." Gaz said with a half-smile.
"I can assure you Chief that any rapport I may feel with you, even after our years of service together, is strictly platonic." Rovak said without affect.
Gaz let out a laugh. "I hope so, sir, neither of our wives would approve. When do we have Grey Horse until? Ive got more than a few questions." Gaz said, preparing himself to stand. Today was going to be even busier than he thought.
"His resignation is effective from 1700 today, but he should remain aboard for at least another week." Rovak explained.
"More than I need. Okay then, sir. Best I get to it, or you might have to fish my smothered carcass out from under the backed up paperwork." Gaz said, bouncing off his seat.
"An undesirable outcome Chief, see that it is avoided." Rovak said, sliding his glasses back on so he could review the newly revised morning schedule from Ayol.
