Mission Summary
DS13's crew welcomes Dr Intharia T'Zor aboard, a scientist from an unfamiliar universe who had been trapped within an item provided by the 'watchman' encountered in the previous mission. Lieutenant Rune Thul comes aboard from the Qaraqorum to serve as security chief.
On mission day 1, Commander Rovak meets with Ambassador Creon. They agree to organise for her to speak with a Starfleet counselor about the strange, vital information she possessed about the station's unprecedented ability to generate the 'rainbow bridge' energy effect, which cannot be explained by mother or daughter.
On day 2, a survey of the moons of the gas giant Dreizhen V discovers a distress call. On the 25th moon of Dreizhen V, the constitution-class USS Excalibur is found, despite records suggesting it was destroyed in the 23rd century in a well-publicized disaster.
In the meanwhile, the experimental Vulcan ship 'Needs of the Many' arrives unexpectedly, depositing a handful of Vulcan officers, including the new Chief Engineer, SubCommander Saa.
Within the Excalibur, the away team discover a strange bronze statue, vaguely resembling a tapered cylinder with appendages. As they explore further, they find the internal dimensions of the vessel make no sense, but before they can return to their shuttles each is lost down the illogical corridors into an individualised event from their own past.
Once they overcome the choices of their past, the crew are gathered in the sickbay where they find the ship's Commander, known only by his rank. They find him dying in stasis. He awakens long enough to tell them of his nature and origins; he is a 'Time Lord' from the world of Gallifrey, he chased an enemy through the anomaly, leaving him as the only survivor of an apocalyptic war that destroyed his ancient time travelling race and their mortal enemies, maniacal xenocidal beings known as 'Daleks'. After he charges the away team with destroying the dead remnants of his quarry, the suffering Commander returns to stasis.
The crew attempt to dispose of the remains of the last Dalek in the shuttlebay, but the Dalek awakens after assimilating biomatter accidentally sneezed onto it. The crew are only able to do minor damage to it before activating the device intended to destroy it, but the Dalek is able to escape the pocket universe it was banished into. It disables Lieutenant Alph and escapes the Excalibur.
The away team witness the Dalek destroy DS13, and they resolve to awaken the Commander once more and demand answers. Seeing the destruction wrought, he offers the use of his ship to the crew, and takes them back in time ten minutes, to just after the Dalek's escape.
The crew are able to defeat the Dalek with the Excalibur. The Commander is forced to shed his physical body using a natural regeneration ability meant to fend off death, for which he has used all his remaining lives. He continues within the Excalibur's systems as a digitisation of himself, and offers the use of his ship to DS13, under the proviso that it will only have capacities and technologies equivalent to those currently available to the Federation.
Elsewhere, the Romulan Free State has somehow managed to take possession of the Dalek the DS13's crew believes dead, Ambassador Creon reviews the strange new holding within a secret Romulan facility.
